Heating oil frequently asked questions
Heating oil, also known as kerosene, 28 second burning oil and boiler juice, is a fuel used to heat households that are not connected to the mains gas network. It is used for both heating and cooking needs by one million homes in Great Britain.
Heating oil is often referred to as Kerosene. However, there are two grades of oil in the United Kingdom. There is Kerosene BS 2869 Class C2, which is a heavier oil distributed in bulk by our tankers and used as a domestic heating oil. The BS 2869 C1 is a premium Kerosene generally used for camping, gardening and general needs, such as, in stoves, wick heaters and lanterns.
We supply 3 similar types of heating oil:
– the standard heating oil (Peak Burning Oil)
– AGA fuel (Peak AGA Range Cooker Fuel Extra +)
– Premium heating oil (Peak Extra Heat +)
If you own an AGA cooker then we recommend you order Peak AGA Range Cooker Fuel Extra + for best performance.
At Peak Energy we stock 20 litre heating oil drums called Kerobox. You can collect them from our depots at Chesterfield and Belper.
Heating oil consumption depends on several factors, which include the size of your household and family, weather, tank condition and oil-boiler (burner) efficiency. Although we are unable to specify exactly how long the fuel will last, a typical heating oil household consumes between 1,500 to 2,000 litres per year.
Heating oil has a shelf life. However, there are factors that can affect the quality of your heating oil. The condition of the oil in your fuel tank degrades over time as a result of oxidisation and bacterial growths due to temperature and weather variations.
When ordering your oil type, select Peak AGA Range Cooker Fuel Extra +, or Peak Extra Heat +, which are designed to combat these negative effects.
